We booked our trip to Hidden Beach mid 2010, only to learn that a major remodel was to occur during that time. With some easy communication and negotiating, both Hidden Beach and Kim at GoClassy made the alternative accommodations work for our time frame and costs. That in itself speaks highly of both companies.
On the ground in Cancun we were met with a shuttle (all to our own). The resort grounds are very well landscaped, clean, security was always visible and aware. Walking through the Hidden Beach's portal into the very private, yet welcoming environment, it was obvious we were beginning a unique experience.
Even though we arrived early in the day and the room wasn't ready, we were shown around the grounds, offered lunch and greeted by many of the friendly guest. The staff was right there to make us lunch and after, we just took off our clothes, went to the pool bar and began what was a great week of naked relaxing. What makes Hidden Beach truly unique is the staff...friendly(Hola), attentive, respectful and aware of whatever you may need or want. Once they get on to your flow no need to ask again, the drinks are ready and waiting. The food was always clean, tasty and well prepared and if they didn't have something you craved it would be sent over from the El Dorado. We checked out the El Dorado grounds, (known as the darkside) drank a few and ate on that side a few times (variety of food choices)...but it is so obvious that the guests and staff on the HB side are just a breed apart, not to mention we couldn't wait to shed the textiles. We did a few tourist things, went to Tulum, go early a.m. before the heat and crowds...(great beach to swim there also). Ok, Playa del Carmen, interesting,eclectic, busy, impacted, some good items and how many t-shirts that say Corona can one town sell? Couldn't wait to get back and shed the clothes.
Although many guests chose the pool level rooms, we enjoyed the upper level, with a great ocean view, open windows, morning sunrise over the ocean waking us up and the breeze blowing in all day and night. Being our first stay at HB, we don't know what the rooms were like prior to the remodel, but they are very clean and well appointed with a personal liquor cabinet, refrig and safe. Our room jacuzzi jets didn't work, but didn't use it anyway, we really enjoyed being outside and social in one of the two group tubs. One by the pool and one in the night club area. Its true the pool isn't heated, but we were in it early January anyway and it was refreshing (another shot of tequila por favor) and some volleyball. The beach is sand but the walk out past the sand bar bags is a bit rocky (bring water shoes). We truly enjoyed the ocean, being naked and playing in the waves. The palapalas are great to snooze, read and just veg on the ocean even snuggle up on during the day or into the evening.
Every night there was some entertainment and DJ dancing. Although a bit perplexing at some being dressed, we just got naked and danced with others doing the same. The guest we met came from a true variety of interest.preferences and geographic locations, everyone was friendly, respectful and open. But again the staff is wonderful and priceless .....Gracias! As anyone who has been there knows, the hardest part of the experience is putting your clothes on to go home...we are definetly going back..... ten days seems more like it next time!!!
